I finally decided to start this blog on the advice from a friend. If you're just tuning in, you should START HERE, with the latest diagnosis.

Also, as anybody with a serious medical problem knows, medical insurance is not all it's cracked up to be. Just the co-pays can stack up to a large sum of money, and medical insurance rarely covers 100% of procedures that often run $100K or more. If you find any of this blog useful, I encourage you to link to this site. If you find it really useful or want to help, consider throwing me a buck. I've definitely spent more time writing about my personal life than the girl at the coffee shop spent making your latte'.

UPDATES and STATUS

OK, this is my last blog entry for a while. I'm heading to the hospital in 4 hours, and 7:30 tomorrow morning is the surgery. I found out the surgery is not as long as I originally thought... only 4-6 hours. Then it's a couple days basking in the sun on a little island called "Surgical Intensive Care" and soon I'll be able to eat again... so hungry.

So, if you're looking for updates, read the comments to this blog posting. People will comment here as to how the surgery went and how recovery is progressing until I can post myself. If things don't go well and I owe you money.... you should have collected sooner. ;)

we will meet with the Dr in the AM to get more info. No one could really tell me much today. Sat in the waiting room for two hours to find out he was still sleeping happily.
Didn't get to visit tonight but I figured he wouldn't want a crowd (of me)anyway even if he could hold a conversation.
Will post around noon pacific tomorrow..

Had a nice long visit this AM and great news too !.

Drs say Jim is doing very well and they are kicking him out of Trauma ICU. YAY!

He will be getting a different room in another lower level ICU unit. Enloe is PACKED.

His liver was looking very good, very hopeful and we get biopsy results back probably on Monday.

Then we will know if he has to have chemo at all. The good news is he no longer has Ulcerative Colitis. YAY!!

Nice man made opiate cocktail he had for breakfast is making him happy and comfy. His spirits are VERY good.. and he is even being "silly" and was a joy to see him use his sense of humour so soon after the big event.

We do not expect him home here until 12-27 or so. Fine way to get out of Christmas shopping eh?

Nurses advised me to let visitors know he is only allowed family visits at this time.

Will post more when I know it...

last nights visit (12-20) went well. he is very very tired. He was hurtin' you could tell. Despite that he was up cruisin the hallways with the walker and the nurse. It is good for him to get up and walk around and keep moving.

Everything will stay pretty much in this stasis for a few days now.

Family visits only still. If you are sending flowers please note he doesn't have a whole lot of room for them. The rooms are pretty tightly set up.

Thank you to everyone for their support, love and kind words.

Hi All... sorry I have been really slow at the latest news, the holidays find me busy and my illness finds me napping ;)

Jim is doing phenomenally wonderful ! He starts on solids tonite which is excellent news and is finally getting much needed dozing after a very sleepless week. In short the drugs are plentiful and working.

All the bells and whistles have been removed form him so freedom of movement is restored and he can sit up, get up un-assisted and trot around the ward in circles doing his daily walk arounds. He is also well enough to report Enloe is really short staffed and needs more nursing staff
(and they seem to lack "cute" nurses too lol).
Complaints are a good thing to hear it means he is healing and returning to normal with him no longer sounding like a hospital patient and more like Jim... we anticipate his return home in a few days, possibly Thursday, and then you can all come over and bug him
(and me!) but I am sure once he is away from the hospital he will really crash out and sleep hard a day or so... but after that come visit for sure he would probably love the company.

We still have no biopsy news at this time as the Dr is on holiday til 12-27

Thank you all for the well wishes and support through all of this. If you have any specific questions I am not answering here please let me know.

Merry Christmas, Happy Festivus...
~Victoria

PS: ID people... please forward info to those you know are concerned I do not have everyones emails that need/want to be notified ...

PPS: He will have the beloved IPhone/computer back in his hands upon his return home so if he has not emailed any of you back thats why...
